Well I guess it’s time to say eating out with Babies now! As you know we don’t frequent chains, but for some reason this past weekend we hit up two chains just by chance. More for convenience than anything else. The Little Monkey’s first restaurant experience was at Spring Rolls at the tender age of 2 weeks and while this was totally unplanned, Baby Boy’s first restaurant outing was at the very same spot on his 7th day! Total coincidence mainly due to the fact that the place is across the street from us (less walking for me given that I’m still recovering from the C-Section) and it fulfills my sushi cravings I’d been keeping at bay for the past nine months. Okay. Hush. I cheated occasionally but it was never an all you can eat gluttony indulgence fest.
As far as all you can eats go I’m picky, I have my favourite spot (which ironically I haven’t featured on the blog yet, mainly because we stopped going there due to the fact that we tend to overindulge and that’s not a good thing, and it’s a bit of a trek down to Little Italy) and when I’ve been starving myself off of sushi, Sushi D is probably the only spot to fulfill the the yearning desire to stuff myself silly on sashimi and maki rolls. Spring Rolls was a safe bet for us as we had family in town and not everyone was into raw fish so we wanted something close by that would satisfy a variety of palates. It was a good mediocre feast on sushi and sashmi but I think I may need to visit Ki soon for some good a la carte .. or perhaps a visit to Sushi D.
I started with a Passion Fruit Smoothie which was AMAAAAZING! I could drink that by the gallon and still crave more! Yes it was that good. I’ve always loved the cocktails, appetizers and desserts at Spring Rolls so it was no surprise that their non alcoholic bevvies were delicious as well. Since we were there for the all you can eat menu, we ordered a variety of dishes and they were fairly standard in terms of what’s available on most AYCE menus…my only beef (hah!) is that priced at $25 they charge an extra $3 for dessert. What’s that about?

Dining with a newborn is SOOOOOOOO easy! Baby Boy slept through the entire meal (he was so fab we’ve dined out every day since then!) which meant that we could focus on the toddler. Ofcourse given that we were in a large group, there was plenty of hands on deck to ensure that she was getting the attention she wanted. As you know I’ve been whining about the challenges of dining out with a toddler and dining out with the seven day old reminded me why I started this series! New parents are cautious about going out with an infant, when in reality it is the best time to go on date nights as all they do is sleep (if timed between feeds). It does get harder as they get older and start walking about and developing their own personality but hey… it’s all part of teaching them the finer skills in life. Like dining out in a dignified manner.
We’re yet to dine out alone as a family of four! Stay tuned for that ADVENTURE!
